RXRXBBIT – SUNK COST

RXRXBBIT featured in two contrasting scenes, one with her peeking through a hedge and the other underwater, wearing rabbit ears. The overall tone is dark and moody, matching the edgy style of the cover art for her track Sunk Cost.

About The Artist

Every so often a new independent artist arrives with a sound that feels both familiar and completely fresh. RXRXBBIT is one of those emerging creators who pulls from influences in alt pop and dance pop while shaping something entirely her own. Her latest release SUNK COST caught my attention immediately. It has that rare mix of bold production, clever writing and emotional tension that makes a track stand out in a crowded space. This is exactly what excites me as a curator working with new music discovery on Groover.

Track Spotlight

SUNK COST is a high energy dance pop release with a sharp twist beneath the surface. RXRXBBIT explores the pressure of chasing success inside capitalism and the self destructive nature that comes from pushing forward simply because of the time and effort already invested. The music reflects this theme with an unrelenting drive.
The central synth motif is wild, gritty and strangely addictive. It has a quality that calls back to early rave culture in the way it refuses to sit quietly. As the track moves forward small production surprises appear one after another. A doubled bass line with rough edges, a fractured guitar idea that slowly mutates into something more processed, tight vocal accents that cut through the mix and ghost like cries that drift behind the main vocal.
It all blends into a colourful, confident, high impact sound. The arrangement never rests, which keeps the listener emotionally alert. RXRXBBIT shows real strength here as a songwriter, producer and storyteller.

My Curator Notes

Every now and then an artist comes to me on Groover that doesn’t just jump out of my monitors it literally jumps out and slaps me round the face!

SUNK COST did exactly that and continued to do so for the next 3minutes or so, it’s an onslaught of relentless musical goodness and for me is what edgy Pop should be. Raw, unapologetic and fuelled by narly grit and nastiness and that’s what this is.

As a taste curated I am not afraid to imbrace all styles of music, one moment my curation will be about great dance music, or folk music or Pop music. Isn’t the great thing about music the fact there’s something for everyone, it’s exactly why I place myself as a taste curator, to discover musical gems no matter the style. RXRXBBIT is more than a gem she’s a musical tour de force tearing up the pop sound and I love it!

RXRXBBIT has delivered a track that feels ready for listeners who love character, tension and attitude in their music. What stood out to me most was her ability to take stylistic influences from artists like Billie Eilish, Charli XCX or Doechii without ever sounding like a replica. The more I listened, the clearer it became that SUNK COST occupies its own space.
The production choices are crafted with real intention. The bass sits with clarity and weight, even though it moves in ways that would normally cause problems in a mix. The panning and layering create a feeling of being surrounded. The whole piece becomes a controlled surge of sound rather than chaos.
For other artists reading this, SUNK COST is a great example of how to push boundaries without losing musicality. The writing stays purposeful, the arrangement evolves constantly and every element supports the core emotion of the track. When you build a world this distinctive, listeners respond quickly.
RXRXBBIT is an artist worth watching. Her self produced approach gives her the freedom to experiment and she uses that freedom with confidence. If she continues to follow this path, her sound will only grow stronger.

Love Electronic Pop? Seriously if you don't hit play it's your loss! Don't say I didn't warn you 🙂
